Kar learned to swim when he was three-years-old in his hometown of Mokena, Illinois. Soon after, he joined his first club team, the Homewood-Flossmoor Hammerheads, when he was six. Kar was eventually recruited to swim distance freestyle at Iona University, where you can still find him in the record book if you know where to look! Although he thought his "swimmer days" were behind him after completing his undergrad degree, the water kept calling Kar back. In 2019, he joined the Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers for their summer season, and in 2021 he joined Team New York Aquatics, where he continues to both swim and coach. Kar is a certified U.S. Masters Swimming coach, a practicing immigration attorney, an aspiring law librarian, and a yarn-spinning enthusiast. He is excited to join the team at Imagine and looks forward to sharing his love of the water with each of his students.
